Tourist road reveals the potential of the Nova Gradiska and the Sava Valey region
One day trips to the idylical river Sava
By Franjo Samardzic

Nova Gradiska – The Sava valley educational road is a project of the Nova Gradiska Tourist Board with the aim of revealing the tourist potential of this region and of inspiring the local people to make profit by preserving the rural values of their villages.“This project offers the beauty of preserved, original, rural areas of a few villages situated along the river Sava, natural beauties of the local forests and some historical sights as tourist attractions.

The project is a part of a large scale initiative of creating various tourist roads in Croatia. The beauties surrounding us often remain unnoticed, yet they are potentially very attractive to tourists. Such is this particular region of the Sava valley and the village of Vrbje.”, says Ljiljana Sirocic, head of the Tourist Board Office in Nova Gradiška.

This educational road is 30 kilometres long and it stretches from the village of Ljupina, through a forest along the river Sava, villages of Mackovac, Dolina and Savski Bok. According to Dinka Matijasevic, the road will be marked with seven information and interpretation boards, one meter by two meters wide. They will contain information about the sights and attractions of the region, archaeological sites and animal and plant life in the area. All boards will be translated into English.

They will also offer information about traditional foods and specialties. Among many others, the delicacies include fish specialties, home-made organic smoked ham and sausages, goat and cow milk cheese and goat meet sausages offered by family farms and estates, as well as restaurants and inns in the area. (Vrbje, LJupina, Visoka Greda, Savski bok, Dolina, and Mackovac).

“Our intention is to realize the tourist potentials of the region. Many hunters and fishermen have already experienced the idyllic beauties of the Sava Valley and we intend to bring excursions and families to one-day trips to this beautiful land”, says Ms Ljiljana Sirocic.
